Another Fantastic UOPU Game in the Books

Here's all I will ask from now on: Where You There?
Put me in, Coach! I am ready to play.

Another shoot out battle at the Ultimate Officials Pick Up (UOPU) Hockey Game!

The game was tied at the end of regulation, 14 to 14.  The Dark Team prevailed on goals from Joe Oberg and Andy Priley.  Meanwhile, Kevin Cassidy stonewalled the first two shooters he faced from the White Team.

Conn Smythe (playoff MVP) = Kevin Cassidy, goalie, 2nd month in a row!

Overall, it was more fun than a bunch of hockey refs should be allowed to have...Where You There?

Why I Encourage You to Play Pick Up Hockey

Ultimate Officials has started running pick up hockey(UOPU) games once a month at Velocity Hockey Center in Eden Prairie.  The UOPU game this month is on Wednesday September 29th.  First of all the particulars:

WHO: Hockey refs who want to have a good time and develop*

WHAT: 3 on 3 hockey on a small ice surface (165 ft. by 30 ft).  This ensures that you have lots of "touches" (cool), you are always in the action (fun), and you don't have to back check as hard (has a shinny-like atmosphere = DOUBLE COOL!).

WHEN: Wednesday September 29 at 8:30 pm

WHERE: Velocity Hockey Center, 7901 Fuller Road, Eden Prairie, MN

WHY: Let me count the ways...
  1. FUN - it's a friggin' blast!  3 on 3 hockey on that small sheet keeps you always in the constant action.  This is not one of those games that breaks down into a bunch of breakaways.  It's hockey the way everyone is doing nowadays = small area games.
  2. THE BROTHERHOOD - hanging with the boys, talking trash, doing some serious male bonding...all of those things are good for you and very healthy, so MAKE SURE YOU COME OUT!
  3. PLAYER EMPATHY - I honestly believe that some refs struggle in calling games because they either (a) have lost touch with reality on what it is like to be a player, or (b) they've never played the game on a serious basis before.  Usually I think it is (a).  So, if you walk a few miles in a player-like moccasins, then I think you'll have a better feel, anticipation, and read for the game.  No friggin' doubt!
  4. FIRST-STEP SPEED - When you play a game on a small sheet like this...well...like I have been trying to tell you...you are always in the action.  This causes you to do a whole lot of short, quick bursts.  When you play on a 200 X 85 surface, you don't need that explosiveness so much, because the game really spreads out.  The quicker you keep your feet moving, the better you'll ref.
Overall, you need to get off your duff and make it down to Eden Prairie this coming September 29th.

Be there or be square.

ADM Weekend

This weekend (Sept 15 - 18) is the annual NAHL Showcase Tournament in Blaine, MN at the Super Rink.  There will be a WHOLE BUNCH of Ultimate Officials guys there throughout the weekend.  That is a testament to (a) themselves and (b) the program of Ultimate Officials (especially guys going through the UO MDM).

This weekend is an unbelievable weekend of hockey.  All 8 sheets in Super Rink are going solid with NAHL games, U18, U16, and U14 games.  The parking lot is jammed with cars, buses, motor homes, and people grilling out.  Scouts from other Jr. Leagues, colleges, and the pro's will be all over the place.  It's quite a spectacle.

GOOD LUCK, BOYS!

So, as a favor to all the readers of this blog, I will share a video I gave to the UO Boys.  This is an example of what all subscribers to my stuff get (whether you are a part of the MDM, Mental Tuffness, the 12 Week Physical Training Camp, or the Non-MN Resident Camp.  Enjoy!
